Do you think it's more important to be compassionate or fair?

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for December 14, 2007:
I didn't know the two had to be separate. To me, being compassionate is also about being fair. Unless, of course, there was another definition for fair which there are many. If fair applies to treating everyone equally, that includes compassion. If it's about who is doing the right thing and who isn't, well then there's still fairness, because is there really such a thing as wrong? Is it wrong to be silly in public? Not really. Actually I don't know where this right/wrong idea evolved from, and it doesn't help the world at best. So what I believe is fair and compassion often overlap.
